WNBA "Dream" Team looks a lot like a Cardinal "Dream" Team

The WNBA announced their starters for the All-Star game last night and the East squad has two Atlanta Dream players that would make up a Louisville Dream Team as well.

First-year player Shoni Shimmel, who set the rookie record for most assists in her first four games in the league with 37, is averaging 8.1 points per game and 3.9 assists. She was leading vote getter among Eastern Conference guards with 25,601 fan votes. Shimmel, who was taken 8th overall in this years WNBA Draft, finished her career at Louisville as the second leading scorer all time with 2,174 points.

Joining Shimmel as a starter for the East is teammate and former Card Angel McCoughtry. This is McCoughtry’s third straight year as an All-Star starter as voted by the fans. Angel could be one of the most complete players in the WNBA this season, ranking fourth in scoring with 19.6 points per game, second in steals with 2.3 and 11th in assists with 4.2. McCoughtry finished her career at Louisville as the all time leading scorer with 2,779 points and also tops in Louisville history in rebounds and steals.

Behind McCoughtry and Schimmel, Atlanta currently leads the Eastern Conference standings with a 13-5 record.

The WNBA All-Star game is on July 19 at 3:30 p.m. ET and will be nationally broadcast on ESPN from Phoenix, AZ.
