WKU FOOTBALL | Tops trying to fill Houchens-Smith stadium for SEC foe, Vanderbilt

09/21/2016 08:31 PM

The Western Kentucky football team has never hosted an opponent from the Southeastern Conference in Bowling Green. That changes on Saturday when they welcome Vanderbilt to Houchens Industries L.T. Smith Stadium.

WKU is 2-1 to start the year compared to Vanderbilt’s 1-2 record, but the Hilltoppers are missing some key pieces to their high powered offense. The most important absence is on the offensive line where senior tackle Forrest Lamp has been sidelined for an uncertain amount of time after suffering a leg injury against Miami (OH).

The Commodores struggles are more well known because of their conference affiliation . They are currently at the bottom of the SEC and every loss hurts the chances of Derek Mason keeping the head coaching job. They will also be hungry to return the favor dealt by WKU last season, when the Hilltoppers beat Vandy in the season opener in Nashville.
