WKU FOOTBALL | Hilltoppers might see a familiar face in North Texas quarterback

10/13/2015 06:30 AM

Western Kentucky is just one win shy of being bowl eligible this season, and plan to earn their eligibility this Thursday against a University of North Texas team that has yet to pull in a W.

When the Hilltoppers defense takes the field on Thursday night, they will likely be lining up against a former teammate.

A reporter for the Denton Record-Chronicle wrote that DeMarcus Smith might get the nod at the starting QB position against WKU. Smith is a Louisville native and graduate of Seneca High School. Smith was committed to Louisville at one point before winding up in Bowling Green, and then ultimately transferring to Butler Community College in Kansas and then to UNT.

This is Smith’s first season with the Mean Green, and in three games this season, he has completed six passes on 18 attempts and one touchdown. Last season at Butler Community College, Smith led his team to a 7-3 record while passing for 2,509 yards and 28 touchdowns.

At his Monday press conference, WKU head coach Jeff Brohm says he is excited to see Smith get the playing time he wanted, and knows the Toppers need to prepare appropriately.
