WKU FOOTBALL | Hilltoppers Gearing Up for 2017 Season

07/27/2017 06:50 PM

The Western Kentucky Hilltoppers have started their “pursuit” of another Conference USA title.

WKU will open up camp on Monday, with hopes of another successful season.

The Hilltoppers have won the last two Conference USA Championships, but there is a new look to this year’s team.

The biggest change is a new head coach. Former Notre Dame offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Mike Sanford was named WKU head coach in December of 2016 after previous head coach Jeff Brohm left WKU to take over as Purdue head coach.

In fact, the 2017 season will be Sanford’s first-ever season as a head coach.

He does have plenty of pieces from the 2016 WKU football team though, most notably quarterback Mike White. White threw for 4,363 yards last season with 37 touchdown passes.

Last week, the 2017 WKU football team was picked to win the Conference USA East Division by members of the media.

Hilltoppers head coach Mike Sanford, defensive back Joe Brown and offensive tackle Matt Nord stopped by Sports Night on Thursday. They spoke with Andrew Chernoff about the upcoming season, about “The Pursuit” and about some of their random interests:
