WKU FOOTBALL | Hilltoppers Fall to Marshall

11/11/2017 10:31 PM

WKU football’s comeback attempt on Saturday night fell short.

The Hilltoppers (5-5, 3-3) lost their third straight game, this time to Marshall (7-3, 4-2) by the score of 30-23.

WKU, who entered the game coming off back-to-back losses against Florida Atlantic and Vanderbilt, was hoping to gain bowl eligibility on Saturday night.

The Hilltoppers scored first, courtesy of a QB Mike White six-yard touchdown pass to WR Quin Jernighan, in the first quarter.

Marshall responded though, scoring 30 of the game’s next 33 points. The Thundering Herd found itself up 30-10 heading into the fourth quarter.

WKU tried to fight back, scoring 13 points in the final quarter, but it was not enough as Marshall held on to the victory.

Mike White finished the game 28-of-41 for 334 passing yards, three touchdowns and one interception for the Hilltoppers.

White and the WKU offense did not see the field for that long, as Marshall had roughly 13 minutes more time of possession by the time the game ended.

The Hilltoppers will hope to rebound on Friday night when they host rival Middle Tennessee. Kickoff is set for 8 ET (7 CT) inside Houchens-Smith Stadium.
