In today’s 58-28 blowout victory, the Hilltoppers scored more points in one game against the Middle Tennessee State Blue Raiders than ever before. In the toppers win, quarterback Brandon Doughty was as impressive as he has ever been. Doughty threw for 359 yards and 5 touchdowns. His performance today propelled himself pass the 10,000 career yard mark in addition to a Topper win.

The Victory pushes the Hilltoppers to 5-1 on the season for the first time since 2012. They are undefeated in conference play, sitting comfortably at 3-0.

Doughty can’t have a big night without his receivers. Taywan Taylor caught six passes for 120 yards and 3 scores, one of which came on a throw from Nacarius Fant. Nicholas Norris pulled in six catches for a 148 yards and one touchdown, and tight ends Tyler Higbee and Jared Dangerfield pulled in a touchdown each.

The run game carried its weight as well, Anthony “Ace” Wales rushed 19 times, broke the century mark, and D’Andre Ferby scored a touchdown on one of his eight carries of the game.

Next up for the Hilltoppers is North Texas, where Western has the chance to become bowl eligible for the fifth straight season. It’s a short turnaround WKU, they head to Denton, Texas to take on the Mean Green Thursday night.
