When WKU opens the season on September 1st against Rice they will be led by quarterback Mike White.
White, a redshirt junior, spent last season on the sidelines watching Brandon Doughty and is now ready to succeed the former signal caller who is now a member of the Dolphins.
The road to the starting position was not an easy one for White. He, senior Tyler Ferguson and sophomore Drew Echols were involved in a three-way competition this fall for the starting job.
“Mike has done a nice job preparing himself for this moment and operates our offense well,” Brohm said. “All three of our veteran quarterbacks worked extremely hard and will be prepared if we call their number. On Thursday, Mike will be our starter and I’m excited for his potential to lead our team.”
Before joining WKU, White spent 2 seasons under former Western Head Coach Willie Taggart at South Florida. White, a Florida native, started 15 games in all for South Florida before transferring to Bowling Green. He sat out last season due to NCAA transfer rules.
White, a transfer from South Florida, spent two seasons in Tampa where he started 15 games over his true freshman and sophomore seasons for the Bulls in 2013 and 2014. He started the final five games of his freshman season and posted the best debut ever by a USF quarterback when he threw for 311 yards on 26-of-41 passing with two touchdowns against Houston. White transferred to The Hill for the 2015 season and sat out due to NCAA transfer rules.
WKU’s home opener is scheduled for Thursday, September 1st at 8pm eastern. The game will be televised live on CBS Sports Network (TWC Channel 968)
