03/10/2018 10:30 PM

The Marshall Thundering Herd earned Conference USA’s automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament on Saturday night.

Marshall (24-10) beat Western Kentucky (24-10) in the C-USA Tournament Championship, winning a 67-66 thriller.

WKU trailed 67-55 with under four minutes to play before storming back to cut the deficit to one. WKU though could not take the lead on its final possession in the closing seconds.

Marshall’s Jon Elmore caught fire from the field in the second half, ending the game with a game-high 27 points.

It was the first win for the Thundering Herd over the Hilltoppers this season, as WKU had won their previous two meetings during the regular season.
