Western Kentucky’s Justin Johnson picked a fine time to hit his first three pointer. Johnson turned and fired a three from the top of the key, with time running out, as the Hilltoppers beat the EKU Colonels 86-84.
The game featured excellent outside shooting from the two teams as they each shot better than 50 percent in both field goals, and three pointers. WKU was led by Aaron Cosby’s game high 26, and Johnson who finished with 22 points and 11 boards. No other Hilltopper hit double digits.
Eastern Kentucky had five in double figures including Jayle Babb-Harrison who had a team high 18. The Colonels see their five game winning streak snapped, falling to 6-2 on the season. The ‘Toppers improve to 4-3.
This is the first time these two in-state foes have met since 2007. The current contract has them meeting three more times, rotating between Bowling Green and Richmond, with next year’s contest taking place at EKU.
