The Louisville Cardinals got off to yet another slow start. This time, in the ACC Tournament Semifinals, it cost them. Syracuse led for much of the game, including the most important moment, at the very end, upsetting number 7 Louisville 80-75.
Myisha Hines-Allen led everyone with 27 points to go along with 12 rebounds. Asia Durr, off the bench, had 23, while Briahanna Jackson finished with 18 points and 9 rebounds. However turnovers cost the Cards dearly. At one point Louisville had 7 turnovers to 1 for Syracuse. UofL wound up with 16 turnovers that the Orange were able to convert into 21 points. Alexis Peterson led Syracuse with a team high 19, while Cornelia Fondren had 18 points to go along with 13 rebounds.
After the game we spoke with Hines-Allen, Jackson, and Durr.
So Syracuse advances into Sunday’s ACC Championship, taking on top seed Notre Dame. The Irish eliminated Miami earlier on Saturday 78-67. Sunday’s Finale is at 12:30pm.
As for the Cards, it’s back to work as they try to fix their issues. We know UofL is in the Women’s NCAA Tournament. Now, the Cards wait to see if the NCAA will allow UofL to host the first two games of the NCAA Tournament, and if Louisville will be sent to the Lexington, KY regional. That information comes out a week from Monday, March 14th.
