UofL wins inaugural AAC Championship

The Louisville Cardinals cruised through the AAC tournament to win the first ever American Athletic Conference championship. UofL defeated Connecticut 71-61 in the title game.
Louisville (29-5, 15-3 AAC) ended the first half on a 10-2 run to go into halftime with a 14-point lead. Connecticut (26-8, 12-6 AAC) never got within 10 points of the Cards until the last bucket.
Montrezl Harrell got his 10th double-double of the season with 11 rebounds and 22 points, leading the team in scoring. Russ Smith tacked on another 19 points and had 5 steals. That brings Smith’s career total up to 254, tying Peyton Siva as the school’s steals leader.
Head coach Rick Pitino said after the game that he thinks his team is a 1 seed for the NCAA tournament, although ESPN bracketologist Joe Lunardi currently puts the Cards at a 4 seed.
