UofL WBB | Cardinals Dominate Demon Deacons

The No. 3 Louisville Cardinals Women’s Basketball team (22-1, 8-1 ACC) defeated the Wake Forest Demon Deacons (10-12, 2-7 ACC) at the KFC Yum! Center Sunday afternoon, with a final score of 89-52.

Junior guard Asia Durr lead the way for Louisville, scoring 26 points, three steals, an assist and four rebounds in 25 minutes.

Three other Cardinals also scored in double-figures. Sophomore forward Bionca Dunham scored 16 points and had five rebounds in 24 minutes, sophomore guard Jazmine Jones had 15 points, one steal, one assist and four rebounds in 23 minutes. Jones went a perfect 1-1 from the three and 6-6 from the free throw line. Red shirt junior guard Arica Carter had 11 points, four assists, three steals and two boards in 22 minutes of play.

The Cards managed to score 24 points in each of the first three quarters, and tied the Deacons with 17 each in the fourth quarter.

UofL outscored Wake off turnovers 28-8, off second chance points 14-2, off of fast breaks 8-4, in the paint 34-24 and their bench outscored WF 27-20.

As a team, Louisville shot 47.6% from the field, 50% from the three-point line and 87% from the free throw line (going 100% in the first, third and fourth quarters). Louisville led the entire game.

Louisville also held Wake Forest to just 32.1% FG shooting and 18.8% from behind the arc. Only one Demon Deacon finished in double-figures- junior forward Elisa Pena, who had 20 points, two assists, one steal, two turnovers and 12 rebounds in 31 minutes against the Cards.

Prior to the game, senior forward Myisha Hines-Allen received a ball for her 1,000th career rebound at Louisville, which she notched a game prior at Miami. She finished Sunday’s game with six points, two assists, two steals and four rebounds in 23 minutes.

The Cardinals are back in action Thursday night at Virginia. Tip-off is at 7:00 p.m. EST.
