UofL SOCCER | Cards Hang on to Victory in Top 25 Battle

08/28/2017 10:48 PM

Prior to the start of the regular season, UofL men’s soccer head coach Ken Lolla talked at length about how important of a leader defender Tim Kubel would be on the team this season.

On Monday night, Kubel proved Lolla correct.

The senior scored the game’s only goal, helping the #9 Cards beat #25 Butler 1-0 inside Lynn Stadium.

Kubel’s strike came in the 39th minute of the match courtesy of an assist from midfielder Tate Schmitt.

With the victory, the Cards improve to 2-0 on the season. Meanwhile, the loss drops Butler to 1-1 on the season.

Up next for UofL is its first road match of the year, at Georgia St. on Friday night. Kickoff is set for 7 ET in Atlanta, Ga.
