UofL SOCCER | Cards Drop Heartbreaker to Virginia in ACC Tournament

11/05/2017 05:49 PM

Two overtime periods were not enough to determine a winner on Sunday afternoon.

In the end, it was penalty kicks that determined the winner, as the six-seeded Virginia Cavaliers topped the three-seeded Louisville Cardinals 4-3 in PKs to win their ACC Tournament quarterfinal round match-up.

Prior to PKs, no team scored in the match.

With the loss, the Cards chances of winning an ACC Tournament championship come to an end:

Despite the loss, it was a memorable afternoon for UofL goalkeeper Jake Gelnovatch. Gelnovatch’s father, George Gelnovatch, is the head coach of the Virginia men’s soccer team:

UVA will play seven-seeded Notre Dame on Wednesday evening in the ACC Tournament semifinal round.
