It’s game week for the Louisville men’s soccer team. The Cards are just days away from their regular season opener against U-C Irvine which is at Lynn Stadium this Friday at 7:30 pm ET.

U of L of course coming off a successful 2016 campaign in which it advanced to the quarterfinal round of the NCAA Tournament, and so far a lot of the 2017 team’s focus has been on defense.

One of the key players and leaders on this year’s Cardinal squad will be senior defender Tim Kubel. He has already been named to the MAC Hermann Trophy watch list earlier this preseason. The MAC Hermann Trophy annually recognizes the most outstanding male and female players in college soccer. Last year, Kubel had 11 assists and three goals. He also started all 22 matches at right back for the Cards. Kubel told Andrew Chernoff on Monday that he has already seen a lot from his teammates during the Cards’ exhibitions games, and that makes him even more excited for the start of the regular season.
