UofL Police Lieutenant Colonel Kenny Brown said in a press briefing that UofL police were called to Cardinal Town Apartments at 10:30am Sunday to a report of two women who had been raped. Brown said that one woman is a UofL student and the other is an online student at Western Kentucky University. He said there were reports of many people being in the area at the time of the attack and he would not call it a party. Brown said it was a “gathering.” Former Cardinal basketball player Chris Jones was named as a suspect along with two others. The other two who have been charged are not UofL students.

Dr. Michael Mardis, Dean of Students said “it’s an unfortunate situation, the safety of our students is our top priority.” He said he had heard Jones’ lawyers said he was no longer a student, but Dr. Mardis said as of this morning Chris Jones is still enrolled as a UofL student. Dr. Mardis confirmed that Jones has been cooperative during the investigation and said he has not received any sort of special treatment as a former athlete. UofL leadership and President Dave Ramsey have been well briefed, according to Dr. Mardis and they’re top priority is the safety and security of students.
