The No. 4 Louisville men’s soccer team is moving on the Elite Eight after beating No. 13 Notre Dame 3-1 on Sunday evening.

With the victory, the Cards (14-5-2) advance to their first NCAA Quarterfinal Round appearance since the 2012 season.

UofL’s Mohamed Thiaw scored the game’s lone first half goal. Thiaw gave the Cards a 1-0 lead in the 16th minute of that match after scoring off a rebound from his previous shot.

Notre Dame (12-7-2) answered early in the second half, when Jon Gallagher scored his 14th goal of the season. That tied the game at 1-1 in the 54th minute.

But, UofL responded roughly 17 minutes later thanks to a Tate Schmitt header off a corner kick by Danny Reynolds.

Then, with only six seconds left in the match, Cherif Dieye sealed the victory for Louisville with his fifth goal of the season.

It’s the second time this year the Cardinals have beaten the Irish. UofL topped Notre Dame 1-0 back in September.

Louisville will host the winner of No. 5 Stanford and No. 12 Virginia on Saturday, December 3 at 7 p.m. ET inside Lynn Stadium.
