High school athletes across the country were signing letters of intent on Wednesday as part of the early signing period, a chance to finalize their commitments to specific athletic programs before the spring signing period in April.

The University of Louisville Basketball programs received exactly what they wanted from the early signing period. Five-star small forward V.J. King tweeted on Wednesday night that he has signed his LOI to play for the Cards.

The Men’s team did solidify 3-star Ohio shooting guard Frankie Hughes. Hughes announced his verbal commitment to the Cards quickly after Louisville began recruiting him.

The Women’s team locked down a top-5 recruiting class after signing three 5-star players, one 4-star, and one 3-star. This is the second straight year the Cards have brought in one of the most decorated recruiting classes in the country.

The 2016 class consists of Ciera Johnson, a 5-star 6’4 center from Duncanville, TX; Kyle Shook, a 5-star 6’4 center from Colorado Springs, CO.; Sydney Zambrotta, a 5-star 5’9 guard from North Babylon, N.Y.; Jazmine Jones, a 4-star 5’10 guard from Tallahassee, Fla.; and 3-star 6’3 forward from Philadelphia, Pa. Bionca Dunham.

Since 2010, head coach Jeff Walz and his staffs have built five top-10 classes. The Cardinals welcomed the No. 1 class last year, the No. 5 class in 2010, and the eighth-best group in 2014.
