UofL FOOTBALL | Pair of lineman named to Outland Trophy watch list

More preseason hype for members of the Louisville football team. Thursday morning, U of L’s Drew Bailey and Geron Christian were named to the Outland Trophy Preseason Watch List.

The award is presented by the Football Writers Association of America, and is given to best interior lineman (offense or defense) in the country.

Bailey is entering his senior season as a defensive lineman for Louisville. In his 25 career appearances, Bailey has 67 tackles, 10 for loss, and 2.5 sacks. He played in all 13 games last season for the Cards and recorded a season-best 11 tackles in the team’s win over Duke.

Christian is a two-year starter on the offensive front, both of which while an underclassman. He is coming off a 2016 performance where he helped the Louisville offense average over 40 points per game. He has started 26 consecutive games on the Louisville o-line.

The watch list is trimmed to semifinalists on November 15, with the three finalists named the following week. The winner of the 72nd Outland Trophy will be announced live on ESPN at The Home Depot College Football Awards on Dec. 7.
