UofL FOOTBALL | Jamari Staples wants to beat UK for Bobby Petrino

11/24/2015 06:30 AM

Bluegrass bragging rights are on the line this weekend when the Louisville Cardinals head to Lexington to take on Kentucky, and junior Cardinal receiver, Jamari Staples, wants to win the rivalry for his head coach.

As a transfer from the University of Alabama Birmingham, Staples is playing in his first season as a Cardinal and Saturday will be his first contest against UK. He hasn’t been raised in the rivalry like James Quick or Reggie Bonnafon, two Louisville natives, but pride and respect for his head coach is all the incentive he needs to play his heart out.

In his time as a head coach at Louisville, Bobby Petrino has never lost a game to Kentucky, and maintaining that unblemished record is what motivates Staples to play UK with the intensity of a championship game.
