UofL FOOTBALL | Injury updates for Jaire Alexander and Jeremy Smith

The Louisville Football team is gearing up for the toughest game so far this season. The no. 13 Cardinals welcome no. 3 Clemson this Saturday for the feature matchup of the weekend.

The top-15 showdown is the spotlight game for this weekend’s ESPN College GameDay, and Louisville is hoping to have a healthy roster against its latest ACC foe.

Unfortunately, Bobby Petrino announced today at RS-senior running back Jeremy Smith will miss the remainder of the season with a fractured toe suffered last week in practice. After totaling 57 carries for 382 yards last year, Smith only managed five carries this season against Purdue.

As for All-American cornerback Jaire alexander, Petrino says he is still day to day with a knee injury suffered against the Boilermakers in week one. Alexander also did not play in the Cards’ recent win over North Carolina.

Despite not having Jeremy Smith against the Tarheels, Petrino was impressed with how Reggie Bonnafon and Malik Williams moved the football as U of L’s primary running backs. Williams alone managed 149 rush yards on just 13 carries.

Smith did provide valuable depth however, especially in goal line situations for U of L. In his absence, Petrino is expecting freshman rusher Colin Wilson to step up when needed.
