UofL FOOTBALL | Cards Bowl eligble because of senior leadership
11/15/2015 04:00 PM
The Cardinals started the season with three straight losses. Close hard fought games against two teams that were ranked at the time in Auburn and Clemson, and the third to a team that would soon crack the top-25, Houston.
The Cards have now rallied on the season and won six of their last seven games to earn bowl eligibility with two games remaining. Instead of checking out, and writing this season up as a transition year as Charlie Strong players start to phase out, this team showed up to play in every game. That tenacity and mentality are now starting to pay off as the Cards have put up 79 points over the last two games, and conversely limiting the opposition to 48 in that same stretch.
Saturday night, Louisville grabbed that coveted sixth win over a Virginia team that put up a fight the entire game. The Cards are now bowl eligible, which is an accomplishment that was very questionable after the first three games of the season.
This game against UVA was the final home game of the season for U of L, and the final game inside the walls of Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium for the Louisville seniors. After the game, head coach Bobby Petrino said the win was the way he wanted his seniors to bookend their careers at PJCS, and that their leadership is the reason the Cardinals are bowl bound.
