The Louisville Football team now knows the dates for each of their 2016 games, and once again will face off with some top 25 talent. Coming off an 8-5 season last year, capped off by a win over Texas A&M in the Music City Bowl, the Cards’ full 2016 schedule features three teams that closed out the 2015 season in the AP Poll, including a road game at championship runner-up Clemson.

The full schedule is as follows.
Sept. 1 CHARLOTTE (Thu.)
Sept. 9 at Syracuse (Fri.)
Sept. 24 at Marshall
Oct. 1 at Clemson
Oct. 8 OPEN
Oct. 14 DUKE (Fri.)
Oct. 22 NC STATE
Oct. 29 at Virginia
Nov. 5 at Boston College
Nov. 17/19 at Houston (Thu. or Sat.)

Head coach Bobby Petrino has 18 returning starters from the Music City Bowl team, including the team’s leading returning tackler in linebacker Keith Kelsey. The Cardinals also return 10 starters on the offensive side of the football, including sophomore quarterback Lamar Jackson, who was the MVP of the Music City Bowl after recording a bowl-record 226 yards rushing and two scores.

U of L released a statement from Petrino about the 2016 season:

“This another challenging schedule overall,” head coach Bobby Petrino said. “We have six teams who played in bowl games last season and three teams that finished the year ranked in the top 25. We have a lot of work to do before we start playing games, but with an experienced team returning, they understand the challenges ahead of them and know what kind of preparation is needed to be a successful football team.”
