UofL FIELD HOCKEY | Tar Heels Too Much For Cards in ACC Championship

11/05/2017 05:03 PM

The visiting UNC field hockey team spoiled the Cards’ party inside Trager Stadium.

The five-seeded Tar Heels topped the three-seeded Cardinals 1-0 on Sunday afternoon to claim the 2017 ACC Field Hockey Championship.

It’s UNC’s 20th ACC field hockey championship title.

After the game, UofL head coach Justine Sowry shared her thoughts on the result:

UNC’s Malin Evert scored the game’s only goal in the 19th minute.

The loss ends a wild week for the Cards, who not only played host to the conference tournament, but also made it to the championship game.

UNC’s victory clinches the Tar Heels an automatic berth in the NCAA Tournament, while UofL has to wait until the NCAA selection show on Sunday at 10 p.m. ET to see its fate in the NCAA Tournament.
