UofL beats Morehead State 7-2 to advance into winner's bracket

Kyle Funkhouser pitched 7 strong innings, and Devin Hairston broke out of a slump by going 4 for 4 with 2 runs scored, as Louisville beat Morehead State 7-2 in the opening game for both teams at the NCAA Baseball tournament.
The key inning for Louisville was the top of the 7th. Leading 5-2, Funkhouser gave up 3 straight hits as the Eagles loaded the bases with no outs. However, Funkhouser showed why many scouts consider him a first round draft pick as he got out of the jam without allowing a run. Funkhouser actually helped his own cause by making a nice stop of a ball hit up the middle, and then firing home to force the runner from third.
Louisville advances to the winner’s bracket game. The Cards meet Michigan Saturday at 4pm ET. The Wolverines beat Bradley earlier on Friday 10-5. Morehead State takes on Bradley Saturday at noon in a losers bracket contest, with the loser going home.
