Fans attending the University of Louisville women’s basketball game saw one of the most dominating performances of the season Wednesday night. The no. 8 Cardinals completely dismantled the South Dakota State Jackrabbits 83-30.
Head coach Jeff Walz praised the defensive efforts of his team in his post-game press conference. The Cardinals forced 30 turnovers, scored 38 points off turnovers, and 11 different Louisville players recorded steals. U of L also pulled in 26 defensive rebounds, and limited the Jackrabbits to single digit scoring in three of the four quarters.
The offense was equally balanced. 12 of Louisville’s available 14 players put points on the scoreboard. Freshman guard Jazmine Jones paced the field with 15 points and added four rebounds. Sydney Zambrotta and Myisha hines-Allen were the only other Cards to finish in double-figures. Senior forward Cortnee Walton led the team in rebounds with nine.
The win improves Louisville’s record to 9-2 overall, but the Cards face a short turnaround. The team hosts The College of Charleston on Friday night. Tipoff for that game is 7:00pm ET.
