UofL BASKETBALL | Louisville's Women Gearing Up for Sweet 16 Showdown with Stanford

The Louisville Women’s Basketball team is preparing for its Sweet 16 showdown vs Stanford.

On Friday, the No. 1-seeded Cardinals (34-2), will take on No. 4-seeded Stanford (24-10) at 9:30 p.m. on ESPN2 inside Rupp Arena. This will be program’s sixth time in the Sweet 16 in the last eight seasons.

Coach Jeff Walz isn’t taking another Sweet 16 appearance for granted though, he is making sure his team is staying focused against Stanford, a team who has made it a habit of upsetting teams in this part of the tournament.

“At this time of the year, to me there is no upsets. There’s seeds; sure, we’re a 1 seed, they’re a 4 seed. Everybody is good,” Walz said. “When you get to the Sweet 16, you’re playing everybody that’s talented. You don’t make it this far by accident.”

Junior forward Myisha Hines-Allen echoed what Walz said about Stanford and says it’s important to know the personnel of Stanford more than anything else.

“It’s going to take 40 minutes to beat this team, and we just all have to be dialed in and know that scouting report and who’s who on that team,” Hines-Allen said. “Who we’re going to be sagging off, who we’re going to let shoot the three. We just have to be dialed in and know the scouting report.”

Louisville enters the game on a nine-game winning streak, which includes winning the ACC Tournament title. The Cardinals are one of eight programs to reach the Sweet 16 at least six times since 2010.
