UofL BASKETBALL | Louisville Mayor Holds Rally To Show Support for UofL

09/29/2017 02:00 PM

Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer invited fans of the University of Louisville to the Muhammad Ali Center on Friday afternoon.

Once there, the group took a photo. Fischer previously encouraged the group to wear red to show support to the University of Louisville as a whole.

“The big message here is there’s a lot of people at the University that do a great job,” said Fischer. “What’s important is that we have a great flagship university for our city. We know that. These folks just want to send that message.”

The show of support comes after a week of drama surrounding the UofL men’s basketball program, after it was linked to a federal investigation that alleges fraud and corruption in college basketball.

“Sports are so importantly obviously to people, the way they respond to its kind of public face of the university,” said Fischer. “but if we don’t have those kind of academic accomplishments, and leadership accomplishments that the University has, then it’s not really helping to grow our city.”
