UofL BASKETBALL | Interim Head Coach Announcement to Come Friday Afternoon

09/29/2017 10:33 AM

University of Louisville interim president Dr. Greg Postel told reporters on Friday morning that the school intends to name an interim head men’s basketball coach on Friday afternoon.

He also added that UofL will not name an interim director of athletics until next week. That announcement is planned to take place on “Tuesday or Wednesday,” according to UofL Director of Media Relations John Karman III.

The need for an interim head coach and interim director of athletics comes as a result of head coach Rick Pitino and athletic director Tom Jurich being placed on administrative leave earlier this week. That decision stemmed from UofL men’s basketball link to the ongoing federal investigation into fraud and corruption within college basketball.

Dr. Postel was originally hoping to have both an interim athletic director and an interim head coach named by this afternoon.

According to reports as well, Postel also said that the athletic department’s $160 million deal with Adidas will go under a full review. That new ten-year deal was announced by Jurich in August, and runs through 2027.
