The Louisville Cardinals improved to 22-5 (10-4) following at 94-90 victory over Virginia Tech Saturday at the Yum Center.
Donovan Mitchell led all scorers with 26 points and chipped in 5 rebounds as the Cards were able to withstand a 3 point shooting barrage from the Hokies. Virginia Tech was deadly from downtown connecting on 17 of 26 from beyond the arc to keep the game tight throughout.
But Louisville was able to answer with it’s own shooting prowess. The Cards were 51.5 percent from the floor, and 54.5 percent from the 3-point line, making 12 of their own baskets from deep. After the game, head coach Rick Pitino said he was happy to get the win, and glad the team was able to win it with offense, but the defense was not what it needs to be when the postseason rolls around.
Quentin Snider finished with 19 points and 4 assists, while Jaylen Johnson scored 16, and grabbed a team-high eight rebounds.
The win was also significant for Louisville as it was the 1,800 victory in the program’s history. Louisville is currently 10th all-time in program wins.
