UofL BASKETBALL | Cardinals pound Hartford as Onuaku Shines

Sophomore Center Chinanu Onuaku had 18 points (12 in the first half), as the Louisville Cardinals ran away from Hartford in the second half, pounding the Hawks 87-52. Onuaku just missed a double-double, finishing with a game high nine rebounds.
The Cards never trailed after the 4:02 mark of the first half. Up just 14-10, Louisville got some breathing room with a 17-6 run. Then the Cardinals blew the game open coming out of halftime by going on a 21-1 run over the first ten minutes of the second half.
Damion Lee tied Onuaku for team high in points with 18. Trey Lewis was the only other UofL player to score in double figures with 11. However every Cardinal except for Donovan Mitchell and Jay Henderson scored at least two points. That includes Jaylen Johnson who finished with 9 points and 8 rebounds. Pancake Thomas was the game’s leading scorer, putting in 20 for the Hawks.
With the win Louisville improves to 2-0 on the young season. The Cards next game is Saturday against North Florida. Hartford falls to 1-2.
After the game, assistant coach Ralph Williard took to the podium in Pitino’s stead, he mentioned that team is still growing. That includes grad-seniors Trey Lewis and Damion Lee.
