UofL BASKETBALL | Blown out in the Yum! Center

01/30/2016 05:03 PM

It was billed as a white out. Rick Pitino was in a white suit. His Cardinals were in special white uniforms. Well, if today’s contest game was any indication, the idea of the white out, should be THROWN out.

In one of their worst losses ever in the Yum! Center, 16th ranked Louisville is blown out by number 11 Virginia 63-47. The game was not as close as the score indicates as the Cavaliers led by 20 or more points for most of the second half. Anthony Gill and Malcolm Brogdon each put in a game-high 13 as UVA won its fourth straight contest.
Ray Spalding and Deng Adel both led UofL with 12 points, but of note is the fact that Chinanu Onuaku, battling an upset stomach, had only one point and no rebounds, and the two fifth year guards, Damion Lee and Trey Lewis, had six and four points respectively.

With their first defeat at home, UofL falls to 17-4 overall, 6-2 in the ACC, while Virginia improves to 17-4, 6-4 in the Conference. Perhaps a silver lining in an ugly afternoon, is the fact the Cards don’t have much time to think about the loss, because steaming into town Monday at 7pm ET is second ranked North Carolina.

After the game, we got reactions from several of the Cards, including Coach Pitino, Trey Lewis, Damien Lee and Donovan Mitchell.
