UofL BASEBALL | Tyler Fitzgerald Has Baseball in His Genes

Being one of the new kids on a team can be tough. Many times, it takes a while to adjust to the higher level of competition.

But, it’s not that bad if you’re a true athlete.

“I played basketball and football growing up too,” said UofL infielder Tyler Fitzgerald.

After committing to Louisville, Fitzgerald and his father, Mike, sat down to discuss his future. They decided Fitzgerald should play baseball in college.

That decision was the right one for the Rochester, Illinois native, especially because he has baseball in his genes. His father Mike, played pro ball with the St. Louis Cardinals.

“After games I’ll come to my phone and I’ll have ten messages from my dad about every at bat,” said Fitzgerald. “It’s nice to have. It can get annoying sometimes, but it’s a blessing to have.”

His dad is not the only one in the family with talent on the diamond though. Fitzgerald’s brother Mike also played pro ball, as a member of the San Diego Padres.

Fitzgerald hopes to follow in both of their footsteps.

“That’s (playing professional baseball) always going to be my goal,” said Fitzgerald.
