UofL baseball head coach Dan McDonnell led his team to a lot of success during the 2017 season.

As a result, he has received plenty of praise throughout the country during the past season.

That praise continued on Monday as he was named Baseball America’s “College Coach of the Year” for the first time in his career.

In 2017, McDonnell took the Cards to their fourth-ever appearance in the College World Series. UofL went 1-2 after getting to Omaha.

Louisville finished the 2017 season with an overall record of 53-12, which includes the Cards’ games at the CWS. The 53 wins are a school record for Louisville. It also was the fourth time in the last five years that UofL has reached the 50-win mark in college baseball.

Spectrum News’ Andrew Chernoff talked with Baseball America writer Michael Lananna on Monday about Baseball America’s decision to name McDonnell its “Coach of the Year.”
