The no. 4 Cards were nine outs away from a series opening win over no. 5 Florida State, but a seven run seventh inning propelled the Seminoles to a 12-7 victory in the first of three games. The loss also snaps U of L’s six game win streak.

Brendan McKay was the starting pitcher for U of L, giving up 10 hits, three earned runs, and left the game early in the fifth inning with Louisville holding a one run lead. At the plate, McKay hit a solo homer for his lone RBI, and crossed the plate twice.

Second baseman Devin Hairston was the Cards leading hitter. The sophomore went 3-for-5 with one homerun, three RBIs and scored one run. Outfielder Corey Ray, catcher Colby Fitch, and outfielder Logan Taylor were the only other Cardinals to bat in a run.

Five Seminoles had multiple hits, led by junior second baseman Matt Henderson who was a perfect 4-for-4, and had two RBIs and two runs. The win improves Florida State’s record to 21-7, and 8-1 in ACC.

The loss drops U of L’s record to 23-6, 9-4 in ACC play. The first pitch in game two is scheduled for Saturday at 6:00pm ET.
