UofL BASEBALL | Cards win pitchers duel to sweep Notre Dame
03/12/2016 06:22 PM
Drew Harrington pitched a five hitter through 8 innings, and closer Zack Burdi picked up his first save as 4th ranked Louisville beat Notre Dame 1-0. The Cards sweep al three games of the series, improving to 3-0 in the ACC, and 13-2 overall.
The game’s only run scored in the bottom of the 8th on a Logan Taylor RBI squeeze bunt that scored Ryan Summers.
Harrington pitched one of his best, if not THE best, game of his career, striking out seven, and not allowing a walk. The game also answered a major question for Head Coach Dan McDonnell. Earlier, he had expressed concern, because most of UofL’s wins had been by blowouts. McDonnell wanted to see how his team would perform in a close game. Today’s contest might have answered the skipper’s concerns.
Notre Dame falls to 6-8 overall, 0-3 in the ACC. Louisville now plays a pair of non conference home games, hosting Xavier on Tuesday and Wright State on Wednesday, before playing their first ACC road games, next Friday-Sunday at the Miami Hurricanes.
