UofL BASEBALL | Cards Take Part in Media Day

The Louisville baseball team took part in its annual “Media Day” on Tuesday afternoon.

The Cards open up the 2017 regular season Friday in Clearwater, Fla. They play Alabama St. at 3 p.m. ET inside Spectrum Field.

Louisville will then play two other games this weekend in Florida, against Maryland on Saturday, and against Ball St. on Sunday.

Expectations are high for the Cardinals this season. They are coming off back-to-back trips to the NCAA Super Regionals, and are hoping to make it back to Omaha for the College World Series this year:

The Cardinals have plenty of weapons on the roster this season, including junior pitcher and first baseman Brendan McKay, who was named Collegiate Baseball’s National Preseason Player of the Year in December.

Last season, McKay went 12-4 on the mound, striking out 128 batters, while having an ERA of only 2.30.

At the plate, he hit .333 last season, with six home runs and 19 RBI:

Another weapon for UofL will be junior catcher Colby Fitch. Fitch hit .339 last year and had 25 RBI.

Sports Night’s Andrew Chernoff caught up with Fitch prior to the Cards’ practice on Tuesday:
