02/25/2016 08:30 PM

One week into the season, and the first true test for the Louisville Baseball team has arrived. Friday night, the 2nd ranked Cardinals meet their first top-25 opponent when the take on no. 21 Mississippi in Oxford.

Louisville has gone a perfect 4-0 to start the year, most recently beating Eastern Kentucky 14-2. The Cards now head on the road for the first time to take on a fellow unbeaten; Ole Miss is also 4-0 to start 2016. The Rebels swept a three game series with Florida International before scraping out a win 4-3 over Arkansas State.

The trip to Oxford is also a homecoming of sorts for Cardinal coach Dan McDonnell. McDonnell spent six seasons at Ole Miss as an assistant, working with Rebels’ head coach Mike Bianco. In his tenure at Mississippi, McDonnell helped lead the Rebels to five NCAA appearances, including two Super Regionals, and a SEC regular season title in 2005 and the tournament championship in 2006.
