The Louisville Cardinals have started the ACC portion of their schedule the way they began the non-conference part, with victories. Friday UofL swept a double header from Notre Dame, 4-3 in game one, and 8-2 in the nightcap.
The opener had plenty of dramatics. Tied at one after 9, both teams scored a run in the 10th, and the Irish got a run in the 11th. However in the bottom of the 11th, with one on and one out, Nick Solak went downtown for the walk off two run blast as the Cards rallied for the 4-3 victory.
Game two was easier on the nerves, for Cards fans. UofL scored six runs in the first inning, which was more than enough for Brendan McKay. The pitcher allowed two runs in the fourth, but Louisville was never threatened, and the Cards ran away with the 8-2 victory.
With the win, Louisville improves to 12-2 overall, 2-0 in the ACC, and a perfect 11-0 at Jim Patterson Stadium. Notre Dame is now 6-7, 0-2 in conference. The series concludes Saturday at 1pm ET.
