The Louisville Cardinals had their hitting shoes on. The Cards used a 10 run fifth inning to help blow out the defending NCAA Champion Virginia Cavaliers, 15-0. With the victory, UofL wins the series, two games to one, and also improves their record to 19-5, 6-3 in the ACC. The Cavs fall to 17-8, and 5-4.
The Cards scored first, in the bottom of the first, thanks to an RBI double by Devin Mann, and an RBI single by Danny Rosenbaum. Rosenbaum wound up going 3-for-4 with three RBI, including a two run homer as part of the 10 run fifth inning. Louisville never trailed for the final 17 innings of this series.
Much of the credit should go to the Louisville pitchers. Starter Drew Harrington scattered 4 hits through seven shut out innings. Harrington improved his record to 5-1. Three more UofL relievers also slammed the door shut over the final two innings.
The Cards take a break from the ACC, to take on in-state rival Western Kentucky. The game is in Bowling Green on Tuesday, with the first pitch scheduled for 7pm ET and 6 pm CT. The Hilltoppers are 14-9, having just swept three straight from Conference USA foe Middle Tennessee State.
Louisville’s next ACC opponent is Virginia Tech. The Hokies come to Jim Patterson Stadium next Saturday through Monday, April second thru the fourth.
