The Cardinals baseball team has a big trip this week. They are heading to the Dominican Republic.

Dan McDonnell’s team leaves for a five day trip this Friday where they will participate in three community service efforts in addition to playing four games against Dominican professional teams. Those games will include matchups against Estrellas Orientales and Leones del Escogido of the Dominican Republic Professional Baseball League.

This is the program’s first ever international trip and will immediately begin the community service aspect of their trip upon arrival. The team will conduct a youth baseball clinic Friday evening. They are also scheduled to provide food to an orphanage, and feed a local village.

Louisville’s game schedule will begin on Saturday at 10 a.m. ET with two split squad games against local independent professional teams The trip is an effort by McDonnell to provide valuable game minutes to the new guys on the team, as well as the vets, but he hopes they take away more than just the baseball experience.
