UofL ATHLETICS | Tyra: "This (Athletic) Department Is Bigger Than Any One Man"

Louisville’s Interim athletic director Vince Tyra met with the media Thursday afternoon and was quick to dispel rumors that this press conference was to announce any news from the school’s NCAA appeal:

Tyra did, however have plenty of news to share about updates within the athletic department. First, after doing research of the salaries of the top three athletic directors in the ACC, Tyra will be taking a pay cut from his current annual salary of 1.2 million to $850,000 a year to bring his salary more in line with the conference.

Tyra also touched on the firing last week of Mark Jurich, who was senior associate athletic director of development. Some had called the firing retaliation as Louisville is currently involved in a legal battle with Mark’s father Tom. Tyra said that Mark’s position had been eliminated as a belt tightening measure to put extra money toward the student athlete experience at UofL.

And while there was no new information given in regards to the basketball program Tyra did share that Head Coach David Padgett is on the recruiting trail and is preparing for national signing day on April 11th.

Finally, Tyra was asked about Dan Dakich, the Indianapolis radio broadcaster who claimed that the NCAA had reached a decision in regards to UofL’s appeal and an announcement would be coming late last week. Tyra’s response was short and sweet.
