On Monday evening, Michael Boykin of Carrollton, GA became the third highly touted player in four days to commit to play football at the University of Louisville. 247Sports has Boykin listed as a composite three star defensive end, whose commitment was announced just days after both TJ Brunson (LB, Columbia, SC) and Jawon Pass (QB, Columbus, GA) made their commitments to the University of Louisville.
Boykin is the Cardinal’s 15th commit for 2016, and like many of his future teammates, he chose to play football for Louisville instead of an elite SEC school. Boykin had narrowed his choices to Louisville and Auburn before ultimately picking the Cardinals. In fact, over half of Louisville’s 2016 commits had offers from SEC schools.
Four star QB Jawon Pass chose the Cards over Auburn and Alabama. Desmond Fitzpatrick of Warren, MI is a four star WR/CB who rejected an offer from UK to play under Coach Petrino. Linebacker TJ Brunson turned down his in-state school of South Carolina to play in Louisville. Tight end Austin Cummins chose Louisville over Vanderbilt. Offensive lineman Dwayne Wallace picked the Cards despite being pursued by Arkansas.
Louisville also has two soft commits in four star QB Tylin Oden and three star CB Baylan Buchanan who currently have offers from SEC schools. Oden is expected to reopen his recruitment in the wake of Jawon Pass’ commitment.
Buchanan recently told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution , “I like Louisville. I’m still committed there.” Buchanan also mentioned his good relationship with the UofL coaching staff.
