UofL BASKETBALL | Trent Johnson Joins MBB Program as Assistant Coach

Trent Johnson is the newest member of the UofL men’s basketball coaching staff and will fill the role previously held by acting head coach David Padgett.

Padgett made the announcement during a press conference on Wednesday, calling Johnson “highly experienced” with 36 years of coaching on his resume.

Johnson’s coaching career also includes 17 years as head coach at four collegiate programs.

Johnson has an extensive coaching resume and was a head coach from 1999 until 2016. He also served as a collegiate assistant prior to Louisville: Utah (1986-89), Washington (1989-92), Rice (1992-96) and Stanford (1996-99), as well as an assistant at Boise High School (1980-85).

Johnson’s teams made five NCAA Tournament appearances, including reaching the NCAA Sweet 16 at Nevada and Stanford. He has been honored as the conference coach of the year in three different leagues (2003 WAC, 2008 Pac-10 and 2009 SEC) and has an overall coaching record of 276-264.

Johnson played his college basketball at Boise State (1974-78), where he is among the school’s career leaders with 1,115 points and 702 rebounds.
