Training Camp Report: Day 2
07/25/2014 07:00 PM
NFL Training Camp continues in downtown Cincinnati and the Bengals are excited to feed off the fans at practice:
With Day 1 of Training Camp out of the way, the media got to hear from Marvin Lewis before the team got to work on Day 2. A couple takeaways from the head coach:
1. The game isn’t too big for rookies. At least not for Darqueze Dennard, Jeremy Hill and Russell Bodine, according to Marvin Lewis. He’s been impressed with the rookies so far in OTAs, minicamp and now the beginning of Training Camp. Lewis said the Bengals are blessed to have rookies who aren’t fazed by the big stage. “I’ve been very pleased with him. He basically participated in the first nickel group all spring,” said Lewis. “Just like Russ Bodine was with the first offense (at center) all spring. Jeremy Hill has impressed me that way. I think we’re blessed with those guys.”
2. Lewis is excited to see Margus Hunt really play. Hunt entered the league last year having only player two years of college ball. While physically, he’s a great fit for the NFL, he was a little behind his teammates mentally. Now that the first year is over, Lewis is excited to see how Hunt will put the mental and physical together on the field. “He’s one of the (young) guys that I would write down on that list to see them out there and playing — really playing,” Lewis said. “Now that he knows what to do, he can play carefree and pin his ears back and go. He can play faster.”
