The Bengals began their 2016 Training Camp on Friday afternoon and now have three practices completed. The team practiced in shoulder pads today but will bring out the full pads for the first time on Monday. Here are three takeaways through the first three days of camp:
1. Largest crowd of camp. 2,325 fans were in attendance today for the Bengals third practice of training camp. It was the largest crowd of the first three days. In addition to the thousands of fans, former Bengals great Willie Anderson was in attendance. He watched today’s practice from the sidelines and will officially start tomorrow as a consultant for the offensive line for the week.
2. Wide receivers. A.J. Green celebrated his birthday by dominating one-on-ones at today’s practice. The Bengals top target burned Dre Kirkpatrick on back-to-back routes. Outside of Green, rookie receiver Tyler Boyd has also stood out throughout camp so far. Besides one drop in yesterday’s practice, Boyd has taken the opportunity to show off his hands. He also debuted his ability to throw the ball this weekend. Boyd appeared Sanu-like in Friday’s practice when he took a pitch from Andy Dalton, and threw a go route to fellow receiver Brandon Tate.
3. Quote of the Day. Willie Anderson: “I left 8 years ago, so I was here when this thing was built, when the stadium was under construction… So to see how talented this team is is amazing. To be in a position to be around here, to see these guys win 10+ games every year where that’s the norm. In the 90s, we struggled for a long time until Marvin got here and changed things around. But now he’s taken it to a higher level than that.”
