Teddy Bridgewater, Calvin Pryor accept NFL draft invitation

The Louisville Cardinals should be represented well on the opening day of the NFL draft. Quarterback Teddy Bridgewater and safety Calvin Pryor accepted invitations to the ceremony on May 8 at Radio City Music Hall in New York City. Typically, the NFL does not extend invitations to players unless they are fairly confident that player will be drafted in the first round.

That’s great news for Bridgewater, whose draft projections have been all over the place lately. He’s projected to be drafted as high as eighth to the Minnesota Vikings in mock drafts like CBS Sports and Sports Illustrated, or Bridgewater could drop to the second round, as ESPN analyst Mel Kiper projects the former Card to be drafted by the Houston Texans with the first pick of the second round (33rd overall). Bridgewater’s invitation to the May 8 ceremony could be an indication that NFL coaches and general managers are looking at him more favorably.

As for Pryor, pretty much all mock drafts have the former Cards safety being picked up in the mid-first round. Yahoo! Sports has the highest projection with the St. Louis Rams taking Pryor with the 13th pick. ESPN’s Kiper projects Pryor to be taken 17th by the Baltimore Ravens.

The 2014 NFL draft kicks off Thursday, May 8 and runs through Saturday, May 10.
