Stansbury Credits Playing Small in WKU Win Over FIU

Coach Stansbury said playing small helped both Josh Anderson and Darius Thompson to be more effective in scoring and rebounding in WKU Basketball’s 83-76 win over FIU Saturday night. He may have planned to go small for this game, but Dwight Coleby’s knee injury in the first half may have sealed that decision for the head coach.

The Hilltoppers were tied at the half, before outscoring and outrebounding the Panthers in the second. Justin Johnson lead scoring with 25 points and 7 rebounds. Freshman Josh Anderson made his first substantial mark with 13 points and 9 rebounds. Darius Thompson had 18 points and Lamonte Bearden had 15.

WKU improves to 18-7 and 10-2 in C-USA play. When it was suggested that Coach Stansbury wasn’t thrilled with his team’s play during this game, he replied that coaches at this time in the season are never thrilled, but he would take the W.

The Hilltoppers return to Texas to play North Texas on Thursday (2/15) and Rice next Saturday (2/17).
