Seven Hilltoppers make preseason All-Conference USA Teams

Phil Steele’s preseason all-conference selections were released Tuesday for Conference-USA and seven WKU Hilltoppers make the list.

Senior tight end Mitchell Henry was named to the the first team. Henry, who caught 25 passes for 305 yards and two touchdowns was the only Topper to garner first team honors.

Cam Thomas, a senior defensive back out of New Jersey, was selected to the second team. Thomas is coming off a break out year that saw him ranked in the top 20 in the nation in interceptions and passes defended. Thomas racked up 41 tackles in 2013 with one sack and one fumble recovery. He also tallied five interceptions.

Junior Leon Allen was selected to the third team. The 6-foot, 235 lbs running back out of Florida will be expected to should much of the load carrying the ball this season. He will attempt to fill the void left by Antonio Andrews, who graduated in 2013. Allen was the second leading rusher for the Toppers in 2013, getting 72 carries for 357 yards and five touchdowns. Also making the all-conference third team were place kicker Garret Schwettman, wide receiver Willie McNeal and tackle Cameron Clemmons.

Sophomore offensive tackle Forrest Lamp garnered fourth team honors.

The Hilltoppers open their 2014 football season Aug. 29 against defending Mid-American Conference champions Bowling Green State. This will mark WKU’s first season in Conference USA.
