With the 47th pick in the NBA Draft, Russ Smith was selected by the Philadelphia 76ers. Russ was promptly traded though, and will begin his career in the Big Easy with the New Orleans Pelicans.
Smith ended his career fifth in career scoring and first in steals in the UofL record book, and Russ was an integral part of the Cards’ 2013 National Championship team.
He averaged over 18 points in his last two seasons as a Cardinal. Head coach Rick Pitino nicknamed him “Russdiculous” for the crazy moves and baskets he would make. Despite that reputation, Celtics point guard Rajon Rondo said at his camp in Louisville that Russ is more methodical than people think.
Russ Smith, Anthony Davis and the Pelicans will play at the KFC Yum! Center against the Miami Heat on October 4 in an NBA exhibition game.
